Age Concern Godstone

Age Concern Godstone started life during World War II as Godstone Old People’s Welfare Committee, to help alleviate some of the hardships suffered by older people during those difficult years. Along with many other such organisations, the name was changed to Age Concern in the early 1970’s.

Helping People
Helping People

The type of assistance required and provided may have changed much over the years – soup kitchens and requests for coal no longer occur – but the principle is the same as ever. Age Concern Godstone exists to help and advise the older members of the community with their lives, be it with transport to doctors, to clinics, to hospital out-patients, with up to date advice on age related problems, social activities within the village, occasional financial support or perhaps just a friendly, impartial ear for their troubles.

The Age Concern nationally changed its name to Age UK and although we are not supported by them in any financial way, we can still call upon Age UK’s local office in Guildford for advice or referral.  Age Concern Godstone decided not to change its name and proudly remains “Age Concern”!

Community Services
Community Services

We hold occasional community service activities, such as cream teas or soup and sandwich lunches in the village for the benefit and entertainment of residents.  We have a stall at the August Bank Holiday Fete where information leaflets may be collected and advice sought.

Our other activities include:-

Our Committee meets once a month for about an hour and has close contact with statutory bodies as well as receiving up to date information on all topics concerning elderly people. We like to encourage new faces onto the Committee, to broaden our ideas and scope and welcome input from anybody who is interested in the welfare of older people.  Donations are always welcome if you are in a position to help.
